UASU Maasai Mara University Chapter Officials
Faith Njeru
Chapter Chairperson
CHAIRMAN’S REMARKS 2025 UASU MAASAI MARA 2026 AGM. Sorry for the delay in AGM this should have taken place last year. The long strike and many meetings with management and marathon classes took a lot of the space. Also court cases on the constitution brought some uncertainty. It is one year since Maasai Mara Chapter granted me the mandate to be the union chair. Accept my gratitude for giving me the opportunity to serve you. Our union culture has been to perform beyond the expectations. We have been known as a chapter to benchmark with due to our exemplary performances. This has happened because of our deliberate deviation from the habit of embracing retrogressive the status quo. Our great drive to renovate and creative endeavors are at the top notch. Indeed MMARAU chapter has a great history that deserves to be in the Hall of Fame where our many achievements can be paraded not only for other Kenyan unions to learn from but to also share with the world the way to achieve. The short span I have been an elected chapter chair, I have successfully guided the meetings, deliberations and overseen the general running of the union affairs. Together with my other colleagues, we have ensured our discussions have come to fruitful conclusions. The sole purpose of the UASU is to take care of the members’ welfare. We, your elected union officials, listen to your needs. In short not only are your voices heard but quick action is taken. For instance colleagues have gotten their deserved promotions; we have gotten our CBA arrears even some which appeared forgotten. In the same spirit I am confident all our dues will be paid. Our delayed internal CBA is at the tail end, we have been very firm in demanding what you have requested us to get. The medical care and facilities is still in our struggles, there is a committee that has been indefatigably working on it. Delay in remittances for our deductions such as; statutory, Sacco, pension and many others has been at the top of our agenda. I am glad to report that we have made a great leap and reap. We need to celebrate our union getting an office outside the university but accessible since it is near the main gate. During the strike colleagues got a place to put the heads together. This autonomy is another milestone for our union. The premise is well furnished with wifi. This is the place we hold our meetings .We are no longer customers of hotels. This has enabled a smooth running of the union. Every time we envision improvement. The union is passionately concerned with the high levels of stress related to working conditions. They could be emanating from: unmanageable teaching loads, setting and marking exams, delayed part time payments and many others. The named setbacks can cascade to family life. The union still insists on dons taking leave like other university workers, a break without marking or other university cares. We take our deliberation to the management to make them aware of our plight. We have been give hearing. It may be difficult to avert industrial action especially when it comes to demanding for our rightful pay. Dons, we need to improve on time management. Finally, as we go for elections, may I take this opportunity to thank those who have offered to serve the colleague with diligence. Thank you colleagues for accepting our leadership and giving us tasks to perform for you. Let us conduct the coming campaigns with decorum befitting our chapter. My dear comrades and electorates, allow nothing to come between you and good delivering leadership. Let us uphold political hygiene in all our under taking. The union is grounded in maxim; education that liberates and our university’s motto: Eng’no e Puaan(Knowledge for prosperity) Solidarity forever!
Isalambo K. Boniface

Welcome to the UASU Maasai Mara University Website. The UASU, Maasai Mara Chapter was registered in 2014 following the award of Charter in 2013 and institutional change of name from the defunct Narok University College to Maasai Mara University. Alive to the fact that Unionism is our primary calling and Treasury is but a means to actualizing this vocation, at least for now, the Chapter Finance office focuses on its UASU constitutional mandate which includes but is not limited to management of Union funds, in the most prudent, transparent and professional manner; keeping clear records and ensuring that the funds are remitted to the Union’s National Treasurer; implementing policy recommendations and any other duties as may be directed or delegated by the Chapter Executive Committee. In the exercise of this mandate, we strive to Uphold Public Interest through the practice of Financial Probity and Public Accountability. We are ultimately guided by the provisions of our Union Constitution, Labour Relations Act and any other relevant laws and authorities as we strive to facilitate the Union in performing its core mandate and ensuring a sound financial base in collaboration with the entire Chapter officials team and the membership. Isaac Motochi, PhD (Wits) as one of the three trustees is better known as the don's ombudsman. The first and most important assets of the union are the members. Serving members is therefore his cup of tea.
Margaret Gathogo
Chapter Trustee
I take this opportunity to welcome all to UASU Maasai Mara Chapter. I am one of the three trustees of the Union elected on February 2021 and I thank my colleagues for giving me the opportunity to serve them.
As trustees, our mandate is to make sure issues regarding members' welfare are addressed fairly, without prejudice, and with utmost consideration that no funds of the Union are put into unnecessary usage. We are also mandated to act as moderators wherever conflicts arise in the running of the Union.
We look at the future of our Chapter with a lot of optimism, that the mandate we give to the leadership and the ideals that we would like to achieve will be realized.
Solidarity Forever!
